For more on FTU's celebration of the event, see pages6-* 7 , Commencement Speakers Proposed by Committee The Ad Hoc Commencement Committee has sent President Charles N. Millican a list of proposed guest speakers and platform guests for graduation exercises. However, President Millican feels that it is inadvisable to release the names of the persons on the list, because if the person of his initial choice is unable to attend, another speaker from the list will be selected. Thus, if the names were published now, the second speaker chosen (if there is one) may feel that he is being considered second best. As soon as a speaker accepts the invitation, his name will be published. One of the subcommittees is working on distribution of diplomas and the assembly of graduates and faculty prior to commencement. The subcommittee is investigating the various necessary details of diploma distribution. Another subcommittee is working on the distribution and retrieval of caps and gowns. Printed instructions given to the students and faculty prior to commencement exercises. Since it is impossible to find a convenient time for rehearsals, these instruction sheets will be extremely important. Mr. Ian D. Maxwell, manager of the bookstore, has ordered 5000 graduation announcements; he expects them to come in soon. Student Government is giving the graduating seniors ten announcements free of charge, and the bookstore will sell the students any additional announcements they may need. Gown measurements will begin in two to three weeks; the cost for caps and gowns will be taken from the graduation fee, which should have been paid by FTU Endorses Proposed KSC Shuttle Site The role of the Kennedy Space Center in planning shuttle flights in earth and space situations has received a strong endorsement from key officials at FTU. Led by President Charles N. Millican, the FTU Advisory Council composed of the three vice presidents and deans, has sent to President Nixon, the Director of NASA and pertinent Legislative Assistants a resolution which spells out numerous points favoring KSC as a space shuttle site. A special session of the US House Subcommittee on manned space flight which includes in its membership Florida Congressmen, Lou Frey, Jr. and Don Fuqua. This session will be held April 10 at Cape Kennedy to consider views of such a site by several prominent Floridians. Among the ^roup to be present is the President of the University of Florida, Steven C. O'Connell, representing the universities of Florida. Clubs Look To SA Recognition FTU clubs and organizations have not been officially approved by Student Affairs, tne FuTUre learned this week. Although Student Government approved constitutions as new groups formed, Student Affairs has not yet given recognition to any of the 50 student clubs. All organizations were requested by Student Government to attend a constitutional workshop April 7 where the procedures for writing and submitting a constitution were discussed. Dean William Proctor, representing Student Affairs, was disturbed with the wording and content of many constitutions. The purpose of the workshop was for clubs to receive hints and ideas on the correct form of a constitution. Organizations were urged by Ron Turner, who conducted the workshop, to review their constitutions and revise them wherever necessary, and turn them into the Student Government office. Joseph Gomez of Finance and Accounting stated that arrangements for late payments of graduation fees may be made; but if a graduating student fails to pay his fees, he will not receive his degree in time, or his cap and gown. The Catalyst, "a launching pad for creative ideas", is on sale for $1. The magazine is a publication in which you can have published your personal viewpoints, , opinions, thoughts and new ideas on any topic. The Catalyst enables you to speak out freely, honestly, and seriously. It publishes short stories, prose, and poetry. that the facilities and personnel of the FTU library have not been increased enough since the opening of FTU to merit accreditation.
