All three sides have been accepted by the Student Ring Committee. Bids of companies wishing to produce the ring were submitted to the ring committee March 5. After a final decision is made on the company it will take six weeks to put the design into the dye and three weeks from the date of order to receive the rings. The ring will be available in 12 different colors (the 12 birthstones) and white gold, yellow gold and green gold. The girls have the choice of a dinner ring, which is dressier and easier to wear. Doctor Sarakatsannis To Solo in Pops Concert Dr. Leonidas Sarakatsannis, FTU's pianist-composer, will be guest soloist with the Florida Symphony Orchestra College Night at the Pops Concert, in the Municipal Auditorium, Saturday, March 29 at 8:30 p.m. He will perform the Gershwin Piano Concerto in F with the orchestra. Dr. Sarakatsannis heads the music department at Florida Tech and joined the faculty in July, 1968. He was formerly chairman of the piano department at the University of Feiffer To Join FuTUre The weekly cartoon satire of Jules Feiffer begins this week in the FuTUre. Feiffer is known for captions, satire, and humor. He is an internationally syndicated cartoonist of Publishers-Hall Syndicate. He is the author of several plays and revues and a novel. Seven collections of his cartoons have appeared in book form. From 1949 to 1951 Feiffer drew a Sunday cartoon page feature called "Clifford", which ran in six Fideles Second FTU Sorority On February 27, 1969, Fideles sorority was granted a charter. Fideles is French for loyalty and a symbol for the underlying theme of the sorority. This recognition followed several weeks of organization by the twelve charter members. The charter members are: Jan Lorraine, provisional president; Helen Commander, provisional vice president; Maurita Norris, provisional secretary; Susan Hardin, treasurer; Mimi Poley, program chairman; Caralyn Chamberlin, Cheryl Wilmoth, Karen Wilmoth, Mary Silliman, Judy Moore, Georgianne Mollison, and Kaye Cockins, sponsored by Mrs. Lee Johnson. Although primarily a social organization, Fideles have undertaken such service projects as supporting Taus at the Cerebal Palsy Basketball Marathon, and manning the FTU booth at the Central Florida Fair. Fideles plan Rush Week for the first week of the Spring Quarter, March 24 - March 28. The week will include a series of casual on and off campus get-togethers to enable the Fideles to meet prospective pledges. newspapers. Publishers-Hall Syndicate distributes a weekly Feiffer cartoon to some hundred American newspapers. His cartoons are also found in papers in Paris, Stockholm, Tokyo and South Africa Blood Bank Reserve Heeded Anyone interested in having a blood bank reserve for faculty, staff and students should sign up at the Student Health Center. Twelve pints must be on reserve before any can be drawn upon. There must be a minimum of 35 donors before the mobile unit will come to the Tech campus. There are forms available for parental permission for interested students between the ages of 18 and 21. Anyone in this age bracket that is married may donate blood without their parents permission. No one under 18 is permitted to donate blood. Tau, Has Beens Lead Basketball Florida from 1959-1963. During his tenure at the University of Florida, he was a frequent performer throughout the state. Some of his major appearances in Florida include three performances as guest soloist with orchestra at Daytona Beach and two appearances at the Delius Festival in Jacksonville, Florida. His piano compositions "Twelve Excersions for the Young Pianist" received the Florida Composers' League Composition Award in 1962. Professor Sarakatsannis has appeared many times with symphony orchestras throughout the United States including two performances with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Besides his positions in Florida, he has served on the faculty at the University of Cincinnati and as head of the Piano Department at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville Campus. Circle K Gets Charter Circle K, a service organization at FTU, became an officially chartered member of Circle K International at its charter banquet February 27. The banquet was conducted as a joint meeting of East Orlando Kiwanis and Circle K, and was presided over by Kiwanis President Art Shultz and Mike O'Mara, Circle K President. Attending the affair were John Rhodes, Governor of Circle K-Fla. District, Hal Wainwright, Fla. District Kiwanis Secretary, and Dr. W. Rex Brown, Vice President of Student Affairs. The founding officers of Circle K were honored preceding the installation of the present officers. Tom Kearney, Lt. Governor of Circle K-Okeechobee Division and founding president of FTU Circle K Club, installed the following men into office: Mike O'Mara, president; Gary Hallman, vice president; Devo Heller, secretary; Burt Kelly, treasurer; Larry Dunnigan and Ron Turner, junior board members; and Fred Carter and Brian Skadowski, freshman board members. The Intramural Basketball League at FTU is in full swing and it now appears to be a two-team race in both divisions. The strong teams in the East are Tau Blue and the Ogres, while the Western powers are the Has Beens and Tau Gold. Tau Blue cagers are currently leading the Eastern division with three victories and no defeats. The Orges are close behind with only one loss in three games, that loss coming at the hands of Tau Blue, 53-50. In the West, the Has Beens and Tau Gold are currently tied for first place with 2-0 records. The current league standings are: O'Keefe Addresses Sigma Delta Chi Dr. M. Timothy O'Keefe, assistant professor of communications, Thursday, spoke to the Orlando chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, the professional journalism society. Dr. O'Keefe's topic was the mood of the campus today. He is in charge of journalism at FTU. Dr. O'Keefe expressed hope that a student chapter of SDX would soon be formed on campus. SDX, the largest and most important journalism society in the country, is made up of persons in all areas of communication. This includes people in radio, television and public relations as well as newspapers. National members of SDX include Walter Cronkite of CBS and Robert White, the former managing editor of the New York Herald Tribune. Dr. O'Keefe was president of the student chapter of SDX at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, the first university in the world to offer journalism education, and also received the chapters citation as the outstanding journalism student during his senior year. Next week's action will feature PKE 2 versus Chi Alpha 1 Monday followed by Sigma Y against Chi Alpha 2. On Tuesday, the Ogres go against the Tau Bandits and Sigma Alpha will play Tau Gold. For all eligible colleges and universities the total appropriation for Educational Opportunity Grants is estimated at about $175,600,000, a $51,000,000 increase over the 1969 figure. Contributions to National Defense Loans are expected to drop $45,000,000 to $155,000,000 for the 1970 fiscal year while the allotment for work study programs is scheduled to rise $15,000,000 to a $154,000,000 figure. However, the minimum EOG has been raised $200 as was the maximum, the former now set at $400 and the latter at $1,000. This $200 minimum increase will use all of the additinal funds for 1970 just to help the students presently receiving the aid. A similar circumstance is attached to the work-study increase; the minimum Bonfire To Be Held Tonight An election bonfire is being planned by Village Center Student Activities for 7:00 tonight. Student Government election results will b announced at the bonfire and all students, faculty and staff are encouraged to hear the acceptance speeches and join in the festivities. The FTU cheerleaders, who are planning the event, will be on had to add pep and spirit to the evening and student entertainment will be featured. All candidates are encouraged to make a clean sweep of all campaign literature and add these to the fire. Anyone interested in donating any scrap lumber is encouraged to contact the Village Center. Hot dogs with all the trimmings will be served and all are encouraged to bring blankets and guitars. In the event of inclement weather the event will be held in the Village Center Patio.
