Llr_m/4,\ The UCF Report News and Announcements for the Faculty and Staff of the University of Central Florida Knight Notes Today is the official opening of the new federal Department of Education. Acronym-happy Washington has had quite a time dubbing the new department what with the Department of Energy already holding fast to the most logical abbreviation. Secretary Shirley M. Hufstedler settled on E.D. for her new department—expressly rejecting the suggestion her department be called D.ED. She said that has a "singularly unhappy ring" to it. Did you know renowned contralto Anna Kaskas is conducting vocal master classes on campus through tomorrow? She's appeared in more than 50 roles with the Metropolitan Opera Company. The public is invited to attend any of the sessions---give the Music Department a jingle, x2867, to learn the times. The secretaries in the Computer Science Department felt turnabout was fair play—they treated their faculty members to a sumptuous buffet luncheon Friday in appreciation for all the gifts and goodies given them during Secretaries Week. Sounds like a good program to us. They said it couldn't be done UCF s Faculty/Staff Softball Team made Pro Auto Parts look like amateurs in the season opener last Tuesday night. According to enthusiastic " players, the 13-5 win is only a sample of what is to come—the Tuesday Terrors are already looking for an appropriate place to display their first trophy! Spotlight on Career Service Members of the UCF family gathered in the VC Multipurpose Room Friday evening to honor more than 50 colleagues who had attained five and ten year continuous service marks with the University. Engraved plaques were presented to the Career Service honorees by President Colbourn and Business Affairs Vice President John P. Goree. One special award— the "Unsung Heroine Award" was presented to Tegie Ramsey, payroll supervisor, above, for her 150 percent effort in getting the payroll out on time every time. Congratulating Tegie is her boss, Joe Gomez, University controller. (See pages 4 and 5 for more pictures.) Photos by Bernal Schooley
