Box 25000 Orlando, Florida 32816 Address Correction Requested .UCF LIBRA ARCHIVES Non-Profit Organization U.S. Postage Paid Orlando, Florida Permit No. 3575 The UCF Report Volume 6, Number 34 for the Faculty and Staff Wednesday, April 18, 1984 1.100 graduates require LOUIS ODDO ...Mets' powerhouse Computer's Oddo stars in baseball If the New York Mets win the pennant this year, start lining up for Lou Oddo's autograph. Oddo (systems coordinator/Computer Science) has raised scouting to the level of electronics wizardry. As of April 12 he's riding high. The Mets were off to their best-ever season start with a six wins/one loss record. Team manager Dave Johnson, who calls Orlando his home town, found Oddo early this year through President Trevor T Colbourn. Johnson told Oddo he owned an IBM personal computer and he needed statistics put into a software package to help him outsmart the opposition. Oddo came qualified for the assignment. In the first place he calls » New York home and has always been a Mets fan. And he has the computer know-how. So at night in his garage at home, Oddo * input the info that Johnson furnished him about the opposition teams' pitchers and their record against Mets' hitters and » came up with a program for Johnson to put into his computer to help him outgeneral all the other managers. In spring training at St. Pete the Mets * people treated Oddo like one of the family. The assignment is complete except that Oddo would really like it to go on and on and he's prepared to come up with refinements indefinitely. He doesn't mind being mentioned in the New York Times and Sporting News * as Johnson's "guru." He's also pleased with the free admission to games in New York that he's counting on when he goes there in May, and all the recognition and the T-shirt they gave him. If this wave crest keeps on he could be the first systems coordinator offered a * contract by the majors! He could be the pioneer figure in computerized baseball. * Easter egg hunt for tots under 7 The Student Center's annual Easter egg hunt for children of faculty, staff and students is Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m. A movie will be shown before the 0 egg hunt and refreshments will be served for children up to seven years old.
